However, this heightened caution has not diminished investor interest across the board. Sectors such as quick commerce, AI, deeptech, and robotics have come to the forefront. Since several businesses in these sectors are capital-intensive and require longer gestation periods, patient capital has also emerged as a key theme in the ecosystem this year.
India’s startup ecosystem, which now commands a combined valuation of more than $700 Bn, is therefore entering a phase in which investor caution is coexisting with the emergence of new billion-dollar companies.
The unicorn pipeline continues to expand. After six startups attained unicorn status in 2025, seven Indian startups have crossed the $1 Bn valuation mark in 2026 so far.
This year, Sarvam and Emergent joined Krutrim in India’s AI unicorn club, while Skyroot Aerospace became the country’s first spacetech unicorn. Astrotalk became India’s 133rd unicorn after an ESOP buyback valued the spiritual tech startup at $1 Bn.

Together, these soonicorns command a combined valuation of about $66 Bn and have raised more than $19 Bn to date.
